Land of Ruby

2013

Land of Ruby is a short film that is both about glass and created with glass. The narrative is based on true events that occurred during the 18th century in the town of Rejmyre, Sweden. This town has a long history of producing red glass that continues to this day. However, during the mid 1700’s the secret of producing this wondrous glass was lost and resulted in a series of strange events, notably arson and madness. Land of Ruby tells the tale of complete collapse through a series of dreamy dioramas made with various wonder-producing optic strategies. Also, large doses of humor infuse the ominous gloom of the narrative.
